Akiva School Anthem

Come on, there's lots to do
Every day there's something new
Learning here, growing at Akiva.
A Torah Jew I'll try to be,
Think of others, not just me
Bags are packed, we've got the tools, at Akiva school.

Akiva - that is the place for me
Akiva - that's where I want to be
Akiva - learn how to lead the world
To joy and harmony

These activities include Art, Israeli Dance, Lego Robotics, Chidon Hatanch, Mishmar, Sewing, Chess, Drama, Martial Arts, Choir, and Basketball. More clubs will be formed to cater to the needs of our families and students.

We are very proud of our alumni who serve as leaders in their communities and families. We have alumni who are  doctors, lawyers, engineers, rabbis, bankers, and even alumni who work in Akiva!

Extra-Curricular Activities

The Akiva library’s collection consists of over 5,000 books, which help to support and augment both our General Studies and Judaic and Hebrew Studies curriculum. Beginning in Gade one, students are taught to locate books in all areas of the library, and older grades are instructed how to locate resource material. Our weekly library program is aimed at instilling a love of reading and literature in all students from preschool through junior high.

Our collection includes:

  • General Fiction (and young adult fiction)
  • Jewish Fiction
  • Picture Books
  • Leveled Readers
  • General Reference
  • Judaic Reference
  • Jewish Studies Collection
  • Torah Reference
  • Hebrew Collection

Daily Hot Lunch

Hot Lunch is served every day at Akiva. Fresh, hot, healthy and nutritious meals are offered every day at Akiva. Mrs. Zuli Mashiah, a proud parent and former restaurant chef is the hot lunch cook and coordinator. Orders for lunches are placed each month before the beginning of the month.

We thank the Len and Faigel Shapiro Family Foundation for their generous grant towards the hot lunch program.

At Akiva we realize that it takes a community to raise a child. We are proud of our warm inclusive Akiva family which includes people from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. We partner together with parents to customize education for each student. All our students from Grade 1 and up are on a Personalized Education Plan (P.E.P). We partner with Jewish Family Services to provide social and psychological services to our families. We invite community leaders to come share their experiences with students to inspire them to one day be leaders.

Our top priority is the safety of our students. We have security measures in place including surveillance cameras, extra lighting, controlled entry, and other measures recommended by Calgary Police and CIJA.
